Safer and less congested travel between Moorabbin and Dandenong is one step closer with weekend bridgeworks completing a major milestone on the $74.6 million Dingley Arterial at Keysborough.

Mordialloc MP, Lorraine Wreford, said overnight works at the weekend involved lifting the final beams in place for the new Dingley Arterial bridge across Cheltenham Road.

Ms Wreford said “This major milestone for the project means the 3.5 kilometre Dingley Arterial between Springvale Road to Perry Road remains on track for completion in early 2013.”

“With great progress being made at Keysborough, planning is also underway for the next stage in the fully divided 19 kilometre route between Moorabbin and Dandenong, with Dingley Bypass works to commence in 2014.

“The Coalition Government has now committed $156 million for the 6.4 kilometre Dingley Bypass between Warrigal Road and Westall Road.

“These two projects will complement each other providing better connections for people living and working in Melbourne’s south east. Congestion will ease on key arterial roads including Heatherton Road, Centre Dandenong Road and Old Dandenong Road,” Ms Wreford said.

Construction is well advanced for the Dingley Arterial while planning and community consultation for the Bypass commenced last year.

The projects will provide vital transport links for rapidly growing industrial and commercial areas in the Cities of Kingston and Greater Dandenong, with more direct travel helping to reduce costs for business.

“Our region is one of the fastest growing industrial areas in Melbourne, so it’s important that we plan and deliver transport connections for future development,” Ms Wreford said.

“Better and safer transport links between Moorabbin and Dandenong will support business and jobs for people living and working in these communities,” Ms Wreford said.
